We had an exciting 2nd week of summer! It might not have been as action packed as heading to Yellowstone on the boys' first ever flight but I think the boys have enjoyed what mommy had planned for them for week two! I feel like a cruise director giving them their daily itinerary when they wake up in the mornings as they enthusiastically ask what we are doing for the day!
Prior to starting our local summer fun, daddy gave the boys the annual summer "buzz" cut! With the hot temperatures and frequent applications of sunscreen, this haircut is functional for the hot summer months!
The boys went to a local church's VBS in the evenings this week. That meant from 6:00-8:30 on Monday through Wednesday night, mommy and daddy had dates! It was crazy pulling away from the church with an empty car... this is a rare occurrence for me to be alone in my vehicle! Zack and I went out to dinner Monday night, a movie (Jurassic World) Tuesday night and for frozen custard on Wednesday night! Thursday was family night so I got to tag along with the boys and see all the fun they had in the evenings (at Nerf wars in particular)!
The boys were able to see a movie as well this week. We saw "The Secret Life of Pets" which is part of the kids' summer movie series... they get to enjoy a movie in the fancy theater with a drink and popcorn for a very reasonable rate! We joined the Williams and Kennedys for this activity. Not pictured, we also met them at the pool one afternoon, and I was able to take the boys a couple times to the pool this week to beat the heat and get some energy out!
We also had some snuggles while reading books or working on a bit of "schoolwork". We fit in a bike ride to the school nearby (even Burke joined us for this outing). We went to the library to pick out new books for the next couple weeks. The boys also set up a nerf war in our downstairs and invited one of Zander's best friends, Christian, to join in the fun for the afternoon. The bunkers were a nice addition to the friendly competition! Our sock snatcher loves taking daddy's socks (and not making eye contact when he knows he is in trouble)!
We went out to dinner to celebrate my birthday since all of my family was out of town on the actual day. It was fun to extend the festivities into the next week!
One of the big events of the week was traveling to Atlanta to see Dude Perfect!! We have followed this group for many years now and love how they are so bold about sharing their faith while also entertaining a crowd! It was a fun evening for me and my boys!
Maddox was so worn out from the travel we had done the week before and then again to see Dude Perfect, he crashed as soon as he laid down on Saturday night!
The final highlight of the week was getting to head to south Georgia to see my college roommate! We were placed together our freshman year and it has been such a blessing to continue our friendship over 20 years later, no matter the distance or circumstances that might prevent us from seeing each other more frequently. I loved watching our kids hang out and as always Sam made the most delicious food while we were there! I hate she lives 6 hours away but I am equally excited that we are able to get together when the opportunity presents itself! We are just hoping it won't be so long between visits as it was the last few years!
