Welcome to the Family..... Maddox Robert Houston!

Our newest family member is here!! Maddox arrived on October 26th.  He came about two weeks before his official due date (of November 8th) but I am so thankful he came when he was ready to meet us!  So here is how it all "went down".  I woke up about 2:30 a.m. on Monday morning feeling like my water broke.  It didn't seem to feel like what you see in the movies with a gush of water but I could tell something was different.....it was like I had sprung a leak!  I decided to go back to bed (and actually slept for a couple more hours) and started the day like any other..... got Zander to "school" and went into work.  I called the doctor's office when they opened to mention what had happened and they had me come in around 9:30 am to get checked.  They confirmed my water had official broken and we could head to the hospital (after stopping for a quick snack since I couldn't eat once I was admitted).  I was checked again at the hospital and then admitted.  I was only at 2 cm (which I had been for a couple weeks now) and had no contractions!  It was crazy to think that Baby Houston was coming!  They started me on pitocin to help begin the contractions.  And then we waited.... we walked.... I bounced on an exercise ball.... etc.  The doctor came in to officially break the rest of my water that was still in tact.  And then the gushing started!!! OH MY GOODNESS!!! I felt like I had sprouted a waterfall.... it was crazy!! As Zack says, it was like I had three water balloons tucked up in there!  There were three major puddles over the course of the afternoon.  It took forever to get to 4 cm!  I thought the baby had decided he wasn't ready after all.  And then things went FAST!! As in.... 4-10 cm fast!  The contractions were very intense! No epidural etc. made me feel every last one of them!  And fortunately, after 10 minutes of pushing, we were able to meet our second son!!  I was able to hold him IMMEDIATELY!  He even tried to start nursing!  It was such a different experience than with Zander.  With Zander having to go to the NICU, I didn't get to hold him on his actual birthday and we spent a week going back and forth between home and the hospital.  Maddox was able to stay in our room, and we could introduce him to family and friends as they visited.  It is awesome also being home two days after having him so we can enjoy our new family dynamic!  Here are some pictures from our week!

Getting Caught Up Again!

Just another random catch up post! I will be 38 weeks tomorrow and "Thunderbird" continues to be progressing right on schedule.  We have packed a bag, installed the car seat and now we are waiting to welcome the newest member of our family!  Zander keeps saying that "baby brother is turned backwards" as he has noticed the car seat faces a different direction than his.  Oh the adventures we will have with our boys in the upcoming years!  One other hilarious thing that Zander is doing these days is he will run around our upstairs naked right before bath time.... as he is running from room to room he keeps exclaiming "naked boy naked boy".... it might be the highlight of my day! :)
Last weekend we were able to attend TWO birthday parties for two of Zander's best buds!  Marshall turned three and Zander had a great time eating a chocolate cupcake and spending time with his friend.  Now that they have moved to Texas, we take any opportunity we can to see each other!  We also went to Luke's 1st birthday party on Sunday and I forgot to take pictures of the festivities! Zander was able to eat a SECOND cupcake and you would have thought it was his birthday he was so excited!  He also loved the balloons and bubbles he got to take home with him from the party.

My best friend, Lindsey, (Marshall's mommy).... we have known each other since I was in 4th grade and have been there for all the milestones!
Loves his pumpkin hat from Grannie.... kept it on while we ate breakfast at McDonalds!

Playing with the bubbles from Luke's party
Turned 2.5 this week!! What a big boy we have!

Aunt Lindsey took Zander to Uncle Boomer's school for their fall festival!  He had a blast and Zack and I were able to grab dinner before taking the hospital tour to "refresh" ourselves on where to go when Thunderbird decides to arrive.
This is what we do a lot in the evenings lately!  I have been so tired after working all day, getting dinner ready, etc..... we spend a little cuddle time in front of the TV!  It is time to calm down and relax with my boys!  I always find something "educational" for Z to watch so I don't feel as guilty about this downtime!

Fall Fun!

Just wanted to include LOTS of pictures of our fun weekend enjoying all things fall!! We were able to pick out our Houston family pumpkin (a tradition that started the first year Zack and I were dating) and attend our church's fall festival where they have a trunk or treat and hayrides, etc.  We pass by the pumpkin patch every day on our way to "school" so Zander was quite excited we got to "get a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch!"  His vocabulary is incredible and it is so much fun having conversations with our little guy!  Enjoy!

Just to compare.... the last two years of pumpkin picking.....

Zander is Iron Man this year for Halloween (thanks to my best friend, Lindsey A., who got him this outfit as a birthday present this year)!  He loved dressing up and saying "trick or treat".  He was also great about saying "thank you" after candy was placed in his pumpkin bucket.  The only thing he couldn't understand at this point is why mommy won't let him eat all the candy he acquired... he is just not old enough for the bubble gum, etc. or the sugar high from having that much candy in one sitting!
