Merry Christmas 2020!

After traveling last weekend, we stayed home to enjoy some laid back time with family before Christmas.  As I already mentioned, we went to the science center on Monday.  On Tuesday we went grocery shopping and bike riding before meeting up with the Bakewells and Kennedys to see some of the Christmas lights in High Point and Greensboro... Grammy, Grandpa, Aunt Lindsey, Emerson, Eli, the boys and me were packed in their car to enjoy all the beautiful sights of the holidays.  It was definitely a memorable experience to have us all together (even if Eli was less than enthused and cried through most of our adventure.... haha!)  On Wednesday, we enjoyed exploring the school near our house.... the boys liked playing baseball on the big field!  We took Burke for his yearly checkup and I'm happy to report he seems to be doing well!  There is no evidence that the cancer has metastasized at this point.  He has been throwing up often but it might be due to developing a new food allergy rather than the side effects of the cancer so we will continue to monitor our precious pup!  On Thursday (Christmas Eve), we made cookies for Santa and a birthday cake for Baby Jesus!  The boys loved helping me in the kitchen and it was a great way to pass the day since it was raining outside!

While the boys waited for the cake to cook.... they built a fort with all the pillows in our living rooms and pretended to shoot the couch! I'm finding my days are spent enjoying calm moments where we might be reading a book or baking in the kitchen and then quickly moving into action-packed activities that make mommy a little nervous and have to take a few extra deep breaths!
After Zack got off work, he put together Maddox's big boy (full size) bed!  We already had the frame due to purchasing it when we got the crib about 8 years ago and thanks to Grandpa's help and his truck, we were able to purchase and bring home the box spring/foundation and mattress so Zack had everything he needed for the project!  I found the cutest bedding at Walmart for our shark lover!
Christmas Eve night was spent at Grammy and Grandpa's house.... we ate yummy food, the adults opened gifts and we cuddled while watching Polar Express!
That night we came home to put out the reindeer food and cookies for Santa!  The boys and I were cuddling in Maddox's new bed when we heard Santa's bells from his sleigh outside.  We knew we had to quickly go to bed!  Maddox loved the bells but got a little scared when it was time to go to bed...new bed and new noises made him uncertain!  Zander offered to sleep with him and made it through half the night until he went to his own room (Z said he would sleep better there)!
Santa was very good to us this year!  He got me a shirt that says "Support Wildlife Raise Boys" (pretty perfect if I do say so myself)!  Emerson got an Elsa Barbie doll from us and Eli got his hooded towel with his name on it.  The boys' favorite gifts from Christmas morning were catcher's gear from Santa (Z), a catcher's mitt (Z from the Kennedys), a tablet from Santa (M), a football (M from the Kennedys) and both boys have been playing nonstop with the new Hot Wheels tracks from Grammy and Grandpa!  We had the best breakfast with my side of the family!  Later that night, we went to my parents' house for a traditional Christmas dinner while Linds and her family went to visit with the Kennedys.  It was such a great week with some of our favorite people!  It is pretty cool that on Jesus' birthday we all get presents and we get to spend time with the people He has blessed us with!  I pray we never forget that His presence is the greatest gift we could ever receive!
Merry Christmas from the Houstons!
Luke 2: 11:  Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.

Isaiah 9:6:  For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
